The Jane Austen Fanfiction Index

As many of you probably know, I'm a regular reccer (and now co-mod) over at epic_recs . Being a great Jane Austen fan, Austen's works comprise one of my regular fandoms ("Pride and Prejudice" recs can be found here, while recs for other Jane Austen novels can be found here). I frequently get asked about more Austen recs, recs with a specific pairing, author information, etc...

Austen fics are not so easy to find because there is not, unlike in other fandoms, one central archive for all fics and many authors post only in password protected boards. However, one kind soul has decided to make the life of Austen fans much easier and created The Jane Austen Fanfiction Index.

What is the index? As the name suggests, it is a database that lists all (or at least 99%) Jane Austen fics posted on the internet. You can search by Novel, fic author, most recent fics posted and even common fic tropes (such as "Altered Backstory" or "Alternate Pairings"). Authors (especially those that do not post in Austen boards and large fic archives such as FF.net and AO3) are encouraged to submit fic information.

The Index is widely known in the JA boards and sites (each site has its own Login and Password for members), but it's not as widely known outside the JA community. As the site requires a Login, this means a lot of people are unable to access it even if they stumble upon it. I wanted to change that. However, as I wasn't sure whether it was appropriate or not to post the Login information listed below, I contacted Victoria, who is the creator and maintainer of the site, and got her permission to do so.

After you Login you can search for specific fics or even check out the thematic list of the week or the "Therapy" (i.e. Fluffy) fic list.

If you have questions about the Index in general, be sure to check out the FAQ. If you have written an Austen fic that is not listed in the Index, please consider submitting it (use the "Author Checklists" and follow the simple instructions to do so). The more complete the Index is, the better a resource it will be.

Last but not least, feel free to link interested people/communities to this post.
Medium: Anime/Manga.
Fandom: Miscellaneous animes (Kare Kano, Card Captor Sakura, Dragon Ball Z/GT, Sailor Moon, Ruroni Kenshin, Ranma 1/2, Onegai Teacher, Fruits Basket, Inuyasha and Yu Yu Hakusho).
Subject: Canon Het Pairings.
Title: Little By Little My Heart Falls In Love.
Warnings: None.
Notes: Another answer for fst 's request month (I'm on a roll). For inksmears , who in 2007 asked for a "FST for various anime HET pairings. (Because Het pairings don't get much love.)".

Little By Little My Heart Falls In LoveCollapse )
Medium: Television.
Fandom: Star Trek: The Next Generation & Star Trek: Voyager.
Subject: Reginald Barclay/Marla Gilmore
Title: If Distance Should Part Us.
Warnings: None.
Notes: Another mix fst 's request month. In 2007 bioplague asked for "Alternate Pairings"- a pairing that is not canon in any way and with "points for characters that've never officially met". This got meshed with eibii 's 2007 request for "your favourite woefully-overlooked supporting cast or incidental character", to form a mix of an alternate pairing with two woefully-overlooked supporting/incidental characters: Reginald Braclay and Marla Gilmore, from Star Trek TNG/Voyager. Based upon the 1sentence set that I wrote for them back in 2006.

If Distance Should Part UsCollapse )
Medium: Television
Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Subject: The Dominion War.
Title: In Times of War.
Warnings: None.
Notes: For jackluminous , who asked for a "Star Trek: Deep Space 9 FST with a focus on the Dominion War" back in 2006 for the fst request month. I couldn't pass the chance to work on one of my favorite storylines on my favorite Trek show. This ended up being a bit more elaborate than I originally planned, as I hoped to cover some of the major events relating to the war.
The mix is uploaded in a .zip file (songs and cover art). If you'd like one or more individual songs, feel free to ask. If the files have expired, I'll be happy to re-upload: just say if you want a specific song or the .zip file.

Title: The Shadows Grow.
Author: slytherin_gypsy
Fandom: High School Musical/Elisabeth.
Pairings: Chad/Ryan; Chad/Taylor; Taylor/Kelsi; Troy/Gabriella; Zeke/Sharpay.
Rating R.
Word Count: 5,197 words.
Summary: To the surprise of those around them, it is not Troy Bolton but Chad Danforth who becomes a world-renowned basketball star. His meteoric rise to fame and subsequent obscurity are accompanied by a failed marriage, a struggle against alcoholism and the presence of the mysterious man in the white hat, to whom Chad has always been inexplicably drawn.
Warnings (Highlight to read): Alcoholism, character death, cheating, murder, suicide, violence.
Author’s Note: Written for the easthighstory challenge. Based upon the German language musical Elisabeth, a fictionalized retelling of the life of Elisabeth of Bavaria (Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary) that postulates that Elisabeth had been in love with Death throughout her life. The title of the fic and of its subsections as well as some lines come or are adapted from songs from the musical.
The lines about dancing are a mix from the one used in HSM 2 and Spike and Buffy’s interlude in the episode “Fool For Love” of “Buffy, The Vampire Slayer”. A couple of Troy’s lines come from the song “Scream” from HSM 3.

You know me/Yes, you know me.Collapse )

Medium: Movie.
Fandom: The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Subject: Sally.
Title: Pieces of a Puzzle.
Warnings (Highlight to read): Implied incest and abuse.
Notes: “The Nightmare Before Christmas” is one of my all time favorite movies. I’ve been meaning to make a mix for Sally for a long while, but it took a while to put it together.
The mix is uploaded in a .zip file (songs and cover art). If you'd like one or more individual songs, feel free to ask. If the files have expired, I'll be happy to re-upload: just say if you want a specific song or the .zip file.

Title: I Have Loved None But You.
Fandom: Jane Austen's Persuasion.
Pairing: Frederick Wentworth/Anne Elliot.
Word Count: 4178 words.
Author's Notes: Although Pride and Prejudice is my favorite book, Persuasion is a close second. While the relationship between Fitzwilliam Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet is widely acclaimed, the one between Frederick Wentworth and Anne Elliot is much less known. It is a pity, for it is a true example of love withstanding time and adversities. I’ve decided to write this manifesto as a way to share my love for this amazing couple.
Comments, suggestions, corrections and recommendations are very welcome.

Medium: TV Show.
Fandom: Numb3rs.
Subject: Larry Fleinhardt/Megan Reeves.
Title: Endless Complexity.
Notes: The interaction between Megan and Larry was my favorite thing in “Numb3rs” and the show has lost much of its appeal to me since she left. This mix tries to capture a bit of their wonderful relationship. The title and the cover art come from a line from Larry to Megan in the season three episode "Spree": "You continually put me in mind of the M-57 nebula. Both of you with these layers upon layers of endless complexity."
The mix is uploaded in a .zip file (songs and cover art). If you'd like one or more individual songs, feel free to ask. If the files have expired, I'll be happy to re-upload: just specify if you want a specific song or the .zip file.

Made for the request month over at fst. Bangles first request was “INSERT-YOUR-FANDOM-OR-RANDOM-SUBJECT-HERE: the Musical. I just want to see showtunes mashed together with fandoms where no showtunes should ever be.” Inspired by this phenomenal mock-infomercial, I’ve created:

Title: The Iron King.
Author: slytherin_gypsy.
Fandom: Marvel.
Pairing: Steve Rogers (Captain America)/Tony Stark (Iron Man).
Rating: G.
Word Count: 1030 words.
Genre: Fluff.
Warnings: None.

Summary: A Steve/Tony version of “The Frog Prince”. The prince loses his shield, but an iron creature retrieves it for him.
Author’s Note: Written for pandanoai's Fairy Tale challenge over at cap_ironman.
This was heavily adapted from “The Frog King and Iron Heinrich”, the Grimm Brother's version of “The Frog Prince”. The original story was changed around quite a bit because I just couldn't see Steve as a bratty prince and I think Tony wouldn't want him to do anything against his will when it came to their relationship. I've incorporated elements of the Iron Heinrich part of the Grimm's version of the tale, where the king's servant Heinrich had to place three iron bands around his heart to keep it from bursting in grief; they later spring from it when his master is restored. The three metal bands became three parts of the armor and Heinrich transformed into the king himself.
